If you’ve ever wondered how the stories in an author’s head turn into books that readers can hold in their hands, this one’s for you.
Well… I guess I should say if you’ve ever wondered how DEAR DOTTY went from an idea to a novel, this one’s for you.
The reality is there's no one-size-fits-all route to getting published. It's kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure book, but with more coffee and a healthy dose of self-doubt. Some writers plot every detail, while others fly by the seat of their pants. Some land an agent on their first query, others collect enough rejection letters to wallpaper a room (I fall into the latter category).
I’ll be chatting about it all with Heather Lazare, the founder of The Northern California Writer’s Retreat about my publishing journey THIS Wednesday, August 14th at 5 pm PST and I’d love for you to be there! You can RSVP here.
Be sure to sign up even if you can’t join live because Heather will share a replay.
I attended the Northern California Writer’s Retreat (NCWR) in March of 2020 - riiiiight before the world shut down. I can’t say enough about my experience there. I received feedback on my opening pages from an incredibly talented group of writers, got to hear firsthand from industry experts about the querying and publishing process, and bonded with the author-in-residence, Jasmine Guillory over a shared love of Meghan Markle.
Also, there was wine, s’mores, a book club, pretty redwood trees, and yoga. So, minus the looming pandemic, it was a perfect weekend!
If you just can’t wait to learn all about DEAR DOTTY’s winding path to publication, I wrote a step-by-step timeline that led to my book deal here!
See you Wednesday!
xoxo
